Full Story:'Dhyasparva' is a period film, based on the life and work of great visionary Raghunath Karve in the period 1882 - 1953. The film through the protagonist talks about several taboo issues prevalent in the society at that time like Sati System,Child Widow etc. The protagonist in the film had a futuristic approach which he wanted to imbibe in the souls of the people through his writings and by his scriptures. Raghunath Karve (1882-1953),the eldest son of the well known social reformist Bharat Ratna Maharshi Karve, was born in the small village of Maharashtra on the west coast of India. He was highly educated mathematician who sacrificed his successful academic career to devote himself to the cause of birth control and women's reproductive health. With a firm belief that a scientific approach towards sex and women's health issues would enhance familial and social relations,Raghunath karve published books manuals and a magazine called 'Samaj Swasthya' (Social Wll-being) consistently for twenty seven years despite financial hardships. These publications helped families to make informed decisions about child bearing, abortion, infertility etc. Although his published works had no pornographic content,he faced charges of indecency and obscenity, and was punished on those grounds. All these pursuits caused him social ostracism and public humiliation. However,Raghunath was fortunate to have a deeply supportive spouse, who participated in all his activites and bore the financial responsibility of their family. Malati,as a true companion, coped with Raghunath's idiosyncrasies and gave him strength and courage to face adversities.
