Full Story:"Zombie And The Ghost Train (Zombie ja Kummitusjuna,1991) is one of the most memorable films of Mika Kaurismäki?s early career, along with his maverick first work The Liar and the hugely enjoyable Helsinki Naples All Night Long (Helsinki Napoli All Night Long,1987). Keeping with his tradition of low-budget,minimalist films that explore the vagaries of Finnish life,Zombie And The Ghost Train is a comical look at the failing fortunes of an aimless Finnish low-life,Zombie (Silu Seppälä). Zombie doesn't know who he is,where he belongs in life, what he's supposed to do,or even why he's the bass guitarist for band, but it can't be worse than being fired from the army. The only people who have any concern for him are his ex-girlfriend Marjo (Marjo Leinonen) and one other friend Harri (Matti Pellonpää,a Kaurismäki regular). Lacking the energy to either live or die with any success, his only abiding hope is to hear the elusive and mysterious Ghost Train band, whom people have seen but no-one has ever heard. Silu Seppälä mooches around, lumps it up and generally plays to perfection the lead character Zombie,a self-destructive lost young man determined to live up to his name. With brilliant cinematography and evocative lighting that successfully expressed the tragedy of its hero's existence,Mika Kaurismäki's evocative film won applause for its deadpan treatment of a dark and disturbing theme. Winner of the Silver Seashell Award at the 1991 San Sebastián International Film Festival."
