In this article, we’ve got all the info on the age gap in ‘House of the Dragon’ that’s much larger in the books. No couple on the show is without its issues. Check it out right here at Bigflix.

Relationship Goals: Rhaenys and Corlys’ Exceptional Connection

In ‘House of the Dragon,’ numerous pairings are fraught with issues, from sham marriages to incestuous relationships. However, Corlys Velaryon and Rhaenys stand out as the show’s only genuinely loving and wholesome couple amidst Westerosi’s marital strife.

Rhaenys and Corlys’ marriage in ‘House of the Dragon’ echoes the Stark union in Game of Thrones, marked by genuine love and minimal secrets. Unlike other Westerosi marriages, they communicate openly and share no concerning age gap. Their Valyrian bloodline and dragon-rider children solidify their connection, even if their portrayal deviates slightly from the source material in Fire & Blood.

Exploring ‘House of the Dragon’s New Take on Rhaenys and Corlys

In ‘House of the Dragon,’ Rhaenys and Corlys are portrayed as an ideal, loving couple, but in the source material, “Fire & Blood,” their relationship is more complex.

In the book, their age gap of twenty years raises questions, even though it was an approved match. The show appears to have altered this aspect for a more contemporary portrayal while retaining other complicated marriages from the original narrative.

A Glimpse into ‘House of the Dragon

While Rhaenys and Corlys’ age gap was reduced in ‘House of the Dragon,’ the show didn’t shy away from other concerning marriages. Laena weds Daemon, who remains significantly older. Similarly, Daemon and Rhaenyra have a notable age difference. Alicent and Viserys’ union boasts the most significant gap, about thirty years.

The changes aimed less at making Corlys and Rhaenys’ marriage palatable and more at adjusting character dynamics for storytelling. These age adjustments led to at least one functional marriage in the series.

Ironically, while Corlys and Rhaenys have a significant age gap in the series, the original Fire & Blood version had a less concerning age difference between Viserys and Alicent. The show’s age adjustments make Corlys and Rhaenys resemble Viserys and Alicent’s marriage more closely than their book counterparts.
