The Plot
In 2007, Mina Starsiak Hawk was a part-time waitress, while her mother, Karen E. Laine, was a defense attorney. Laine’s first husband was an orthopedic surgeon, and their daughter Starsiak Hawk is their result. In their spare time, the mother and daughter team started flipping residences in Indianapolis’s Fountain Square area. They founded Two Chicks and a Hammer, Inc. in 2008 to perform residential renovations.
Starsiak Hawk is a real estate agent in addition to his renovation work. Although Laine sold her shares in the company in 2019, she still makes appearances on the show and helps out with the remodeling.
Green spaces are a hallmark of their design, and they also like to use the talents of local artists and craftspeople to give each home a unique feel. Restoring or reusing household items is a hobby for Karen. The mother-daughter partnership of Mina and Karen has lately extended into the Old Southside neighborhood, joining the previously renovated Bates-Hendricks neighborhood.
