The plot of the movie revolves around the theme of love, family, and immigration. It’s rooted in the idea of how gentrification affects the identity of natives. The protagonist, Usnavi de la Vega is the owner of a bodega in Washington Heights. He migrated from the Dominican Republic to this area in New York City.
