In this article, we’ve got you covered with everything you need to know about how Karan Johar left a lasting impression on Shah Rukh Khan with his impeccable style sense during their first encounter. The filmmaker shares a hilarious anecdote right here on Bigflix.
Karan Johar: Master of Romantic Cinema
Karan Johar, renowned for weaving romantic tales that have captivated audiences from “Kuch Kuch Hota Hai” to “Ae Dil Hai Mushkil,” and now “Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani,” is a director with a trademark style and iconic characters.
Recently, the filmmaker shared an amusing anecdote about his first encounter with the superstar Shah Rukh Khan. Back when he was an aspiring fashion designer, Karan distinctly recalled advising Shah Rukh to switch to a different brand of jeans. In their conversation, he also suggested that King Khan unbutton a few buttons on his shirt to showcase his Adam’s apple.
In an interview with the renowned fashion designer Prabal Gurung, Karan reminisced about this encounter. He revealed that Shah Rukh Khan had playfully urged him to persuade him to change his denim label. The director couldn’t help but laugh as he remembered this quirky interaction.
He said, “I still vividly remember our first meeting. It was rather absurd because, at that time, I was just an assistant on ‘DDLJ.’ I told him, ‘Oh, you know you’re wearing Wrangler jeans. You should try Levi’s jeans; they’ll fit you better.’ He was taken aback, and looking back, I’m not sure where I got the audacity. I continued, ‘Oh, you have an Adam’s apple; you should unbutton your shirt a couple of buttons.'”
Such humorous and unexpected moments are often hidden behind the glitz and glamour of the film industry, making Karan Johar’s journey in Bollywood all the more fascinating.
Shah Rukh Khan nodded in agreement, but he requested to speak with Aditya Chopra. Aditya revealed that Karan’s comments were due to his South Bombay upbringing. Eventually, Shah Rukh found amusement in Karan’s words and asked, “What do you want to do?” Karan replied, “I want to be a designer.”
