The Broadway version of the 2004 Lindsay Lohan, Rachel McAdams, and Amanda Seyfried comedy, directed by Tina Fey, is being brought to the big screen in the Mean Girls (2024) film. Just before the mid-2000s, Tina Fey authored Mean Girls, which completely changed the rules for teen films, particularly ones with a female cast.
Fey brought the humorous story to Broadway as a musical more than ten years later, and it had a successful run from 2017 to 2020. Next, the stage adaptation of Mean Girls will be adapted for the big screen by the writer-producer, completing the circle of the franchise.
Mean Girls, already scheduled for release in 2024, will come 20 years after Tina Fey’s original screenplay was made into the film that made a lot of people famous, including Lindsay Lohan, Rachel McAdams, Amanda Seyfried, and many more. The expectation for Mean Girls (2024) is extremely high, as it features a cast that includes several actors from the Broadway production as well as some familiar faces from Mean Girls.
New Mean Girls Release Date
Mean Girls (2024) will hit theaters on January 12, 2024, according to the official release date. Originally slated to be a Paramount+ exclusive, the film’s distribution method has changed to a full theatrical run by the company. This implies that Mean Girls (2024) will ultimately make its way to Paramount+ for streaming, though it’s still unknown when the movie will do so following its theatrical run.
New Mean Girls Cast
Many of the actors returning from the stage musical and movie have already been revealed as part of the Mean Girls (2024) cast. For instance, Tim Meadows and Tina Fey will play Principal Duvall and Ms. Norbury, respectively, from Mean Girls (2004), and Reneé Rapp will play Regina George in the stage musical.
Auliʻi Cravalho from Moana plays Janis “Imi”ike, one of the new cast members, and other fresh faces for the main characters. The entire Mean Girls (2024) cast also consists of:
• Angourie Rice as Cady Heron
• Jaquel Spivey as Gretchen Wieners
• Jenna Fischer as Ms. Heron
• Jon Hamm as Coach Carr
• Avantika Vandanapu as Karen Shetty
• Christopher Briney as Aaron Samuels
• Busy Philipps as Mrs. George
• Mahi Alam as Kevni Ganatra
• Connor Ratliff as Mr. Rapp
New Mean Girls Plot
The story of Mean Girls (2024) is based on the 2002 novel Queen Bees and Wannabes by Rosaline Wiseman, and it parallels both the Broadway musical and the original 2004 film. All three were written by Tina Fey. The main character of the story is Cady, a teenage girl whose parents worked in Africa and thus raised her there. After that, she relocates to the United States and must fit in at the neighborhood high school.
She soon discovers how easy it is to become one of them and how similar they are to the wild animals her parents have researched. Given that the stage musical has all of the major Lindsay Lohan movie’s plot points, it makes sense that the new film will have a similar plot.
This involves a lot of the Plastics and, most importantly, Regina George acting like a total evil. Many of the Broadway production’s songs will appear in Mean Girls (2024), though it’s uncertain which will make the cut.

The Mean Girls (2024) trailer, which debuted in November 2023, was released precisely on schedule and provides the ideal amount of suspenseful build-up for the movie’s January 2024 premiere.
