Oscars 2024: In the race for India’s official entry to the Oscars in 2024, filmmakers Karan Johar, Nandita Das, and Sudipto Sen are vying for the coveted spot. Their films, “RARPK,” “Zwigato,” and “The Kerala Story,” respectively, are generating buzz as they contend for the opportunity. Adding to the excitement is the unexpected entry of “Gadar 2,” which is now competing alongside them. Here are the latest reports on this competition.
India is trying to choose the movie it will send to the Oscars in 2024. This is a big deal because some Indian films did well at the Oscars in 2023. They want to find the right movie to represent India at the Oscars.
Right now, they’re looking at a few films to pick from. These films are “Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani,” “The Kerala Story,” and “Zwigato.” They have been showing these movies to a special committee in Chennai to decide which one is the best.
A person who knows about this said that because “RRR” and “The Elephant Whisperers” did so well at the Oscars last time, Indian filmmakers are feeling more confident. They’re looking at all kinds of movies, like big commercial ones, smaller regional ones, and serious ones.
Over 22 movies from all over India have been sent to the committee. They will pick the best one, and a 17-member group led by filmmaker Girish Kasaravalli will make the final decision. They are expected to announce the chosen film next week.
Other movies that have been sent for consideration include “The Storyteller,” “Music School,” “Mrs. Chatterjee vs. Norway,” “12th Fail,” “Viduthalai Part 1,” “Ghoomer,” and “Dasara.” “Gadar 2” also wants to be considered, but they haven’t paid their fee yet.
The person who knows about this said, “The screening started yesterday and would take a week as there is a huge pool of films to be watched, and then they will decide. We can expect an announcement about the official entry from India next week.”
So, we will have to wait and see which movie India picks for the Oscars in 2024.
